Evaluate Your Time Investment: Learn From the Evidence and Improve Results

Discover how evaluating your time investments, Consistency Rate, and actual results can help you make better decisions and grow more profit in fewer hours. What Is the Evidence Teaching You?
“Your intentions reveal what you desire. Your results reveal what your actions produced.”— Benson Agbortogo
Every business leader starts with intentions.
You intend to grow revenue, increase profit, improve team performance, and spend fewer hours managing daily operations.
But at the end of the week, an important question remains:
Did your time investments produce the results you intended?

Good intentions do not guarantee good results. Being busy does not necessarily mean you are making progress.
That is why the fourth process of the TIME Multiplier Framework is EVALUATE.
Evaluation helps you learn from the evidence so you can make better decisions about where and how to invest your time.
As Proverbs 14:15 (ESV) reminds us:
“The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps.”
Wise business leaders do not simply assume their efforts are working. They examine the evidence.
1. Compare Your Plan Against Your Performance

“The gap between your plan and your performance reveals your opportunity for improvement.” — Benson Agbortogo
Evaluation begins with comparing what you planned against what actually happened.
Start with three questions:
- What was my TARGET?
- How consistently did I invest the time I planned?
- What results did those investments produce?
For example, suppose your weekly TARGET was to generate 10 qualified leads.
You budgeted 10 hours for lead-generation activities but invested only 6 hours. At the end of the week, you generated 4 qualified leads.
You now have evidence to evaluate.
Your planned time investment was 10 hours. Your actual investment was 6 hours. Your actual result was 4 leads against a TARGET of 10.
The difference between your plan and performance reveals where you need to investigate.
2. Evaluate Your Consistency Rate

Your Consistency Rate (CR) measures how consistently you invested the time you budgeted for activities intended to produce your TARGET.
The formula is simple:
Consistency Rate = (Actual Time ÷ Budgeted Time) × 100
Using our previous example:
6 hours ÷ 10 hours × 100 = 60% Consistency Rate
This means you invested only 60% of your planned time.
At The Currency of Time, we encourage business leaders to aim for a Consistency Rate of at least 80%.
But there is an important distinction:
Consistency Rate measures execution. Actual results measure outcomes.
A high Consistency Rate does not automatically guarantee a profitable result.
You can consistently invest time in the wrong activities and still miss your TARGET.
That is why measuring consistency alone is not enough. You must also evaluate the return on your time investment.
3. Examine Your Actual Results

Imagine two business leaders who each budgeted 10 hours for lead generation.
Measurement | Leader A | Leader B |
Budgeted Time | 10 hours | 10 hours |
Actual Time | 9 hours | 6 hours |
Consistency Rate | 90% | 60% |
Qualified Leads Generated | 4 | 8 |
| TARGET | 10 leads | 10 leads |
Leader A demonstrated greater consistency in following the time investment plan.
However, Leader B produced more leads with fewer hours.
What does this evidence teach us?
Leader A should investigate whether the activities being performed are effective.
Leader B should investigate which activities produced the stronger results and whether they can be repeated consistently.
Neither leader achieved the TARGET, but each has valuable evidence for improvement.
The goal is not simply to invest more time. It is to invest time consistently in activities that produce the desired results.
4. Identify What Worked and What Needs to Change

Evaluation should lead to learning, not blame.
When results fall short, it is easy to assume that people need to work harder.
But the real issue may be an ineffective process, unclear priorities, insufficient training, or time invested in low-value activities.
Instead of asking, “Who failed?” ask:
- What worked? Identify activities that contributed to the desired results.
- What didn’t work? Identify activities that consumed time without producing the expected return.
- What needs to change? Determine the most important adjustment for improving future results.
These questions shift your attention from judging performance to improving the systems that produce performance.
Remember, systems produce predictable results when the right activities are executed consistently and improved through evidence.
5. Turn Your Lessons Into Action

“Experience does not guarantee improvement. Applied lessons do.”
— Benson Agbortogo
Evaluation is not complete until you decide what to do differently.
You may discover that your team needs to improve its follow-up process, eliminate unnecessary meetings, strengthen accountability, or invest more time in activities that consistently produce qualified leads.
Whatever the evidence reveals, identify one practical adjustment.
You do not need to change everything at once.
Start with the improvement most likely to move you closer to your TARGET.
Then budget time for that adjustment, execute it, and measure the results.
This is how evaluation becomes a foundation for continuous improvement.
Your Monthly TIME Investment Challenge

At the end of each month, review your progress using the TIME Multiplier GPS™:
TARGET: What measurable result did you intend to achieve?
INVEST: What activities did you plan to invest your time in?
MEASURE: What was your Consistency Rate, and what results did you produce?
EVALUATE: What is the evidence teaching you?
Now answer the most important question:
What is the single most important lesson from this month, and what will you do differently because of it?
Write down that lesson and schedule one action to apply it.
Don’t enter a new month simply repeating the previous month. Enter it applying what the evidence taught you.
Stop Managing Time. Start Investing It.

At The Currency of Time, we help business leaders move beyond busyness and inconsistent team performance by investing time in systems that produce consistent profit in fewer hours.
